Trader Joe's Seaweed Snack - I'm addicted to this wonderful dried seaweed snack. Loaded with trace minerals, seaweed is a great source of natural iodine and despite its somewhat salty flavor, it's low in sodium. It's also low in calories - only 30 calories per 1/2 package serving. I love it chopped in salads or straight out of the bag.
CAROLYN AlSO RECOMMENDS:
Mila Chia Seeds -I've been a fan of chia seeds for awhile now, but I've only recently become aware of the Mila brand. An excellent source of vegetatarian Omega 3 fatty acids as well as trace minerals and fiber, Chia seeds also contain all of the essential amino acids the body needs. They are indeed an Aztec superfood. I love Mila chias for their finer texture and blendability. They're wonderful in smoothies, or sprinkled on salads, steamed veggies, yogurt or cottage cheese. If you're looking for something to give you that competitive edge or you just want to stay healthy, give Mila chias a try.
H20 Wear Swimwear - H20's suits are made of a special blend of polyester and are guaranteed to last a year. I'm still wearing swim suits. that I bought years ago. They offer traditional-style suits as well as swimsuit tanks and shorts and warm neoprene jackets, pants and shorts - perfect for exercising in cooler weather. Check them out at www.h20wear.com and if you use my ID # 614378 you'll receive 10% off of your first order.
Norpro E-Z Grip Apple Slicer - I love apples - they're my year-round nighttime snack along with a glass of milk. I just discovered this handy tool that makes it so much easier to slice them!
Zoomer fins by Finis: I have been using these short fins with my aquatic clients for more than 15 years. They are wonderful to promote ankle strength and flexilibity and to increase intensity. I have clients use them for kicking drills as well as for running in deep water (without a flotation belt). Clilck here to find them on Amazon.
Castor Oil - I find castor oil great for tendonitis or bursitis. You can also make a castor oil pack using wool or felt or just apply the oil and cover the area and apply some low heat to the area to increase penetration.
Elemental Herbs Tinted Sport Sunscreen - As someone with fair skin who spends many active hours in the sun and pool, I'm really enamored with this tinted zinc oxide. It blends nicely, doesn't clog my pours and doesn't come off when I sweat or get wet. It also has an SPF of 22.
Barefoot Science Arch Activation Foot Support Insoles - This patented arch activation system not only makes walking and running more comfortable, it helps improve function of the foot and leg muscles and assists in proper posture and alignment.
Kinesio Tex Gold Tape - This special water resistant, elastic therapeutic taping. Kinesio Tex Tape Gold offers a gentle and effective approach to re-education of the neruromuscular system while also relieving pain and providing comfort and stability. I've found it really helpful in treating my Achilles tendonitis.
Share the Damn Road Custom Cycling Jerseys -offers cycling jerseys and bumper stickers with clever slogans that definitely make a statement. My favorite jersey has "Stop Your Texting" on one side and "Thx" on the other.
Carlson Vitamin D Drops - This is an easy way to obtain your daily Vit D dose in a highly absorbed liquid form. Just one drop a day in a glass of water provides 1000ius of Vitamin D.
"Deceptively Delicious" by Jessica Seinfeld is a great book to have on hand if you struggle with getting your kids to eat more vegetables. The author has developed numerous recipes for using fruit and vegetable purees in everything from spaghetti sauce to brownies!
Slow Cookers- offer a convenient and economical method of preparing hearty, healthy soups and stews. Combine beans and lentils or meat/chicken with vegetables and you'll have a warm, nutritious meal when you get home at night.
Intak Hydration Bottle - has a built-in meter which keeps track of how many times you refill it. It also features a nice easy-open spout and is insulated. Great for you and for the environment!
Redmond All-Natural Sea Salt is a great alternative to conventional table salt. Unlike many natural salts, it also contains iodine, an important trace mineral for the thyroid. Redmond salt is delicious. It's also kosher.
Micro Egg Microwave Egg Cooking Cup - provides a fast, healthy way of cooking eggs in a single serving. Great for portion control! Hard-boil, soft-boil or poach your egg in seconds. Great for teens to make their own breakfast.
Yoga Sandals- provide an easy way to stretch your feet while you're not in yoga class. They're basically flip-flops with dividers between the toes. I use mine for my indoor shoes when walking around my condo. I throw them in the dishwasher once a week to clean them. While I love my well-worn pair, I just discovered a more comfortable terry-cloth pair at www.pedicouture.com.
Recharge - a natural electrolyte replacement drink alternative to Gatorade for active people especially during the summer months. Try it at Whole Foods and then to buy in bulk I found this great offer via Amazon.
Chicken of the Sea Salmon Cups - a convenient way to get your Omega 3s on the go. Great for taking with you in the car, on the airplane - or just brown bagging at the office. Available at most grocery stores in the canned tuna section or order on-line.
Aquajogger Flotation Belts - truly the gold standard in buoyancy belts for deep water workouts. They come in different styles and shapes for different body types. They also offer higher buoyancy levels for very lean individuals. I also recommend getting a "hitch" or tether if you exercise in a small or crowded pool. The hitch allows you to tether yourself to the side so you can work out in place.
Water Warmup Jackets - made of special stretchy, comfortable and most importantly warm neoprene fabric. These jackets are a must if you workout in an outdoor pool during the winter months. Find them at www.waterwarmups.com and tell Sally that Carolyn sent you.
Xyflamend- a natural anti-inflammatory supplement for those with arthritis, sports injuries or chronic pain. It contains organic herbal anti-inflammatory formula with powerful anti-oxidative agents, including Holy Basil, Turmeric and Ginger. Find it in most health food stores and Whole Foods groceries.
Aquajogger - the inventor of the original flotation belt for deep water exercise - has just come out with aquatic footwear for use in and out of the pool. I just tried the new Exersandalsand they're terrific! Light weight, comfortable, yet very supportive, they hugged my feet even with vigorous movement (both deep and shallow) - but never rubbed or chafed. Plus they're really attractive. While in the deep water they reminded me of wearing Aquajogger's aquarunners buoyant foot gear though they're not quite as buoyant.
Traumeel -a homeopathic, anti- inflammatory ointment that works great on acute, minor muscle aches and pains. I discovered Traumeel many years ago when I first began racing marathons. The difference in the soreness of my legs post-race was remarkable. These days I carry a tube in my purse - something I was very glad of 18 months ago when I was in a bad car accident.Traumeel is available in most health food stores and Whole Foods and now you can find it on Amazon.com for a great price. It's also helpful in preventing bruising if you bump yourself, but never apply it to broken skin.
